Habituellement, le processus de fossilisation conserve en effet pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentiellement les parties dures et min\u00e9ralis\u00e9es, comme les os ou les\u00a0coquilles, tandis que les parties\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">moles<\/span><\/span> (tissus, organes&#8230;) sont rapidement d\u00e9grad\u00e9es apr\u00e8s la mort de l&rsquo;animal.<\/p>\n<p>Mais, dans le cas\u00a0du fossile, pr\u00e9nomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Sue\u00a0\u00bb pour Keurbos susanae, c&rsquo;est tout l&rsquo;inverse qui s&rsquo;est produit. Ici, se sont en effet les parties internes (muscles, tendons, intestins,\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">nerfs<\/span><\/span>) de cet arthropode de 440 millions d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9serv\u00e9es, alors que la carapace dure, la t\u00eate et les membres ont totalement disparu. Cette caract\u00e9ristique fait de Sue un fossile totalement atypique et d&rsquo;une valeur scientifique exceptionnelle. Il apporte en effet d&rsquo;importants d\u00e9tails sur l&rsquo;<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">anatomie<\/span><\/span>\u00a0de ces animaux primitifs. Cet arthropode, dont finalement on ne conna\u00eet pas la\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">morphologie<\/span><\/span>\u00a0ext\u00e9rieure, a en effet v\u00e9cu \u00e0 un moment bien particulier, qui est celui de\u00a0l\u2019extinction de masse\u00a0marquant la transition Ordovicien-Silurien. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, les continents sont encore vierges, seules quelques zones commencent \u00e0 \u00eatre colonis\u00e9es par un tapis de\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">mousse<\/span><\/span>\u00a0et de\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">champignons<\/span><\/span>. Par\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">contraste<\/span><\/span>, les oc\u00e9ans foisonnent de vie, mais une s\u00e9v\u00e8re\u00a0glaciation\u00a0va entra\u00eener la brusque disparition d&rsquo;environ 85\u202f% des\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">esp\u00e8ces<\/span><\/span>\u00a0qui y vivent. Le fossile de Keurbos susanae est donc un t\u00e9moin pr\u00e9cieux de cette p\u00e9riode de crise climatique et biologique.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;analyse des\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">s\u00e9diments<\/span><\/span>\u00a0ayant emprisonn\u00e9 le fossile r\u00e9v\u00e8le d&rsquo;ailleurs que les conditions du milieu \u00e9taient extr\u00eames\u00a0: absence d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne et pr\u00e9sence de\u00a0<span class=\"tooltip__TooltipBoxWrapper-sc-6usjli-0 iqWaqb\"><span class=\"wrappers__Span-sc-13rs60f-1 eEGdAN\" aria-expanded=\"false\">sulfure d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne<\/span><\/span>, un compos\u00e9 hautement toxique. Mais ce sont certainement ces conditions qui ont permis l&rsquo;\u00e9tonnante pr\u00e9servation de \u00ab\u00a0Sue\u00a0\u00bb.
